The type of insurance which pays for the medical bills incurred on getting treated for any ailment or a health problem is called health insurance. There are basically two categories of health insurance which include individual health insurance plans and the group insurance plans.

 Individual health insurance is a health insurance plan which is purchased by an individual person for covering the medical expenses. As opposed to this, a group health insurance is purchased by employers for covering the medical expenses of a group of employees.

 Individual health plan does not literally mean that it covers the medical expenses of a single person. Most types of individual health plans also provide for the spouse and children of the person who has purchased the policy. This depends on the insurance company from whom the insurance plan is purchased.

 An individual health insurance plan costs more than the other types of health insurance plans. Work place benefits are not covered by an individual health plan. The premium that has to be paid by an individual is also more as compared to health insurance plans.
